Ah.... okay.

Just in case you weren't all aware of this news story from today...

There were protests at airports all across the country on Tuesday against Delta airlines, including one at HIA. Delta is under fire from breast feeding moms and their supporters after kicking a nursing mother off a Vermont flight last month.

”This is just reflective of an overall societal attitude that discriminates against breastfeeding women, and denies a basic human right to a child,” said "Salem," Steelton.

The group of moms and their children are staged a "Nurse-in" at the Delta airlines counter at HIA. It’s their response to delta's decision to kick a breastfeeding mom off a flight after she refused to cover up.

Even the littlest "lactivists" were working hard, but not for long. Security showed up saying they needed a permit to protest. So they all moved outside to continue sharing their message.

”It's time that the entire country wake up and realize that breasts are nothing to be ashamed of,” said Alexis Abeln, Enola. It's the sexual objectification of women- some say- which leads to a lack of tolerance for breastfeeding and its benefits to baby.

While this group is appalled by delta's actions, they believe the airline can still redeem itself. “I would be happy to fly Delta, if I could walk on the plane and see this symbol proudly displayed with a sign that says they welcome breastfeeding moms. I’d fly Delta every time if I saw that.”

Okay, so comments anyone?

My opinion: I think it's great that so many women still choose to feed their babies naturally.... that doesn't mean I want to watch. I agree that it was not appropriate for the airline to kick the woman off the flight, but I don't understand why she wouldn't just throw a blanket over her shoulder.

Is anyone else amused at the thought of walking into an airport today, as an unsuspecting traveler, to hundreds of women staging a 'nurse-in'? Awk-ward.

I love the little icons you find on pieces of machinery that show you how you'll lose your hand if you put it *here*, or on the road in foreign countries that show you how your head will be lopped off by a passing vehicle if you walk *there*... or at airports around the world - I remember seeing one in Schiphol in Amsterdam that looked like a man running away from three canoes... I still don't know what it meant... "Hey, if you're being chased by suspicious watercraft, safety is this way."

All that to say... I would love to see what kind of a "symbol" Delta could post that told the world that breastfeeding moms were welcomed on their flights. Or for that matter, that they wern't (imagine same symbol in a circle with a slash through it...)

It's not the funnest thing to watch a mom feed her baby, but neither is it fun to see any and everyones "goods" in magazines or popping in your face while you "web surfin". So until they put a stop to that, carry on moms! =)
